Our equine veterinary team is now headed up by Dr Merrilyn Fitzgerald ( BVSc, MANCVSC Equine Practice) who is an equine veterinarian with 23 years experience . Merrilyn joined our team in April 21 and was previously working at Goulburn Valley Equine Hospital in Victoria. She has further qualifications in the form of equine memberships in equine practice and is sitting her equine memberships in equine surgery this year. She is a keen competitor herself having brought 4 horses over from the mainland and you will see her out riding at everything from hunts to showing and eventing. All our vets are able to see horses but can consult with Merrilyn at any time on complex or surgical cases. As Merrilyn has a special interest in equine surgery we have recently built a state of the art equine surgical suite and recovery room and are currently expanding this to include a second recovery room and intensive care hospital stables. This is the first time in Tasmania that we have had a resident veterinarian able to offer colic and emergency surgery. We are also fortunate to have Assoc. Prof Nicholas Kannegieter a specialist equine surgeon who has been working with Merrilyn for the past 15 years now come to Deloraine on a monthly basis to perform additional specialist equine surgeries. With our new state of the art facilities we are able to offer a range of new equine veterinary services along with the ambulatory, dental and reproductive services we previously provided.

Our aim at Meander Valley Veterinary services is to offer the same standard of equine veterinary care as is available on the mainland!
