About Us

Deloraine Veterinary Centre was purchased from Dr Pat Hodgetts in 1985 by Dr Roger Blackwell, who continues as the current owner. Having run it initially as the only vet for three years, the practice has slowly grown to its current staff of 9 vets and 12 veterinary nurses and support staff.

In 1992 Roger started the Westbury Veterinary Centre, and together the 2 clinics became known as Meander Valley Veterinary Service. In 2004 the Deloraine clinic moved from Emu Bay Rd to a much larger building in Beefeater Street. This new location offers much more space in the hospital as well as the outside space for horse day yards and a stable.

Although we are based in the Meander Valley area, we often travel outside of this area, servicing clients across much of the north and north west of Tasmania and into the northern midlands. We also now have many horses and some cattle brought to the clinic, saving the clients in travelling costs and allowing access to the full range of diagnostic equipment based at Deloraine.

Our larger size means that our staff can pursue a variety of interests in a range of fields as well as undertaking ongoing training and professional development, which is essential for the ongoing provision of top quality veterinary care across the vast range of species for which we care. The hospital is also an accredited teaching hospital with all of the veterinary teaching universities in Australia, and so we often host final year veterinary interns providing essential hands on learning.
