The Deloraine Veterinary Centre was purchased in 1985 by Dr Roger Blackwell, who continues as the current owner. Since then, the practice has slowly grown to its current staff of 5 vets and 9 veterinary nurses and support staff.
In 1992 Roger started the Westbury Veterinary Centre, and together the 2 clinics became known as Meander Valley Veterinary Service. In 2004 the Deloraine clinic moved from Emu Bay Road to a much larger building in Beefeater Street. This new location offers significantly more space within the hospital and outside for horse day yards and a stable.
We service suburbs throughout the Meander Valley region and also see clients across much of the north and north west of Tasmania and into the northern midlands. Many horses and some cattle are also brought into the clinic, which saves clients travel costs and facilitates access to the full range of diagnostic equipment based at Deloraine.
Our staff pursue interests in a number of fields and undertake ongoing training and professional development. The hospital is also an accredited teaching hospital with all of the veterinary teaching universities in Australia, and so we often host final year veterinary interns, thereby providing essential hands on learning.
